Dish Network cards (little gold square on card), are they worth anything?

    Hi,

I have broken down several dish network units and most of them came with a card that has a little gold square located on the back. Is that little gold square worth anything? Is the card worth anything? Do any of the buyers on this site buy these? Please see picture:

    Thanks for any responses!

God that is an insane price. My understanding is information can be retrieved from the cards some how. Phone sim cards as well..

People used to reprogram them and use them to get free satelite (no idea if it is still possible but it used to be ages ago). My new recievers have the cards built in so you can't remove them. DirectTV used to have the same issues.

ive been trimming them down to just the square. the cards didnt seem to be printed, and so they dont seem to be worth more than the plastic itself.

since its only one sided i assumed i could sell it for half price of trimmed gold fingers. does this make sense. i only have a few of them, but im not gonna throw them away

I have a little collection of ones from Direct TV cards and I have some phone sim cards too. I was just thinking that I needed to search for this topic the other day. Good question mrsamsonite!

Sorry but the gold is not as thick on these as it is on fingers.

About a decade ago I used to get $50-100 each for these cards on eBay and you could find 10 a month going to auctions or yardsales. #TheGoodOldDays

So the gold square needs to be cut off the card? How precise does it have to be and how many squares make a pound? Cant imagine the amount of cutting work just to retrieve $5

I put one of those cards in HCL acid & the fibreboard is soft & absorbed a lot of the acid. Then after a while the gold plate got splotchy & I could see the copper under it.

The gold came off splotchy into the acid. Normally the gold isn't touched even after a tiny bit of H2O2 is added.

So I think the gold layer is really really thin, even thinner than cellphone boards gold.

I'm seeing more and more of the silver-colored square on cards. Anyone know if they are actually silver? My test kit still isn't here yet for me to test them myself.
