OK I searched around a lot and saw this referenced. I have a big kitchen sink faucet. This thing is heavy! Not magnetic and I can see lots of Brass in it. I see references to it being potentially chrome plated brass. Is that the most likely deal? Thoughts here?

Hello Gord, nice to meet you! Can you grind the faucet or at least rub it with sandpaper? If its that heavy it will be brass but if you aren't sure you can scratch test it.

More than likely it is brass. I have found a few chrome plated copper faucets though.

most of the ones ive had were brass, a few stainless with brass fittings which were a PITA to separate from the stainless, and yet others have been die cast molds over brass fittings. i would check them with a file/grinder if you have the means

I think I have came across a select few faucets that were nickel. Silver the whole way through, heavier than aluminum but way softer than stainless but they went in with the stainless since I have yet to see a XRF gun around here.

The yard I go to just started buying faucets by themselves @ .75 lb. Yellow brass was $1.80 last trip. I used to break faucets down but now I turn them in whole and I get anywhere from $2.25 each and up depending on size. Heck, even if a smaller one is 2lbs I think I still make out better turning them in that way. Most I ever got for one was $4.50.

Whole dam things is chrome plated brass. Couldn't believe how thick the dam chrome was. This one weighs in at 8lbs....My 3 year old used it on her 16 year old brother
