Another one :) Brass plated towel bar

I found a bunch of brass plated towel bar fixtures. XRF gun was down at the scrap yard the last time I was there and I am perplexed.

They are light
Non Magnetic
Definitely brass plated.....pretty shiny silver on the inside.

It feel like aluminum by weight, but its not. I left my phone at work so no pics right now, this one shouldn't be that hard but I've been stumped....lol

maybe it's brass plated platinum

Some of that bathrail tubing is made from a metal strip thats been rolled into a tube. Its got a seam down the side of it.
They, as the roll the tube, add a long shim of brass to it, as the tube is rolled the brass shim is on the outside & its gets rolled as well, as the tube is made, the shim is drawn around the tube & as the slit closes, the edges of the brass shim get caught into the gap.
Then the tubes rolled closed & the shim is covering the tube & the ends of the shim are caught tight in the slit, the tube is finished & covered in the shim.

I have seen it a few times, real old stuff, look down the inside of the tube & you can see the edges of the shim. Or just bend it & the slit twists open & the tube collapses & the brass shim lifts off.

I have a doorknob set that is shiny like brass, but sticks to magnets. Steel pile, or could it be magnetic SS? I am still trying to figure out how some SS is magnetic, and some isn't.

After some more reading, it seems that magnetic SS is really only worth steel price anyway. So I guess it doesn't matter what's under the brass plating, as it should go in with the ferrous. Correct?

Although some people mentioned that they toss magnetic SS in with SS that isn't. Is this one of those "ask your yard" things?

I am sorry. I really am reading all around to try to figure these things out without bothering anyone.

I did come across the Magnetic SS thread with the teen scrapper talking in dense text-speak, which was both amusing and a tad depressing. I don't know what he was saying either, and I DO text on my phone.
