    help needed in sorting wires

Does this wire sorting look correct? This may help others too.

    box1 - insulated #2
insulated wires from pc powersupplies, printers, monitors, tvs, VCRs, pc fans

    box2 - communication wire
cat5 cables, monitor cords, phone cords, serial cables, USB cables

    box3 - powercords
power cords from TVs, PCs, printers, vacum cleaners

What is your yard paying for communication wire and powercords?
Is it worth saving insulated alumium wire? Your yard pays how much for this?

Some cables are pretty small and hard to tell if tin coated or aluminum. any advice?

    Thank you,
    Copycat

I would buy that all as #2 copper insulated wire also. Current price is $.91/pound.

Insulated aluminum wire is worth keeping. I usually by insulated aluminum wire at the same price as ACSR wire (Aluminum Coated Steel Reenforced) which is usually used for power lines between the pole and a building. I'm currently paying $.16/pound for ACSR.

The easiest way to tell if wire is aluminum or tin coated copper is to cut it with a side cutter and see what color the inside is. Copper wire is much heavier also.

The only wire I strip is #1 insulated, everything else goes as #2 except the gray ribbon cable from computers. My yard calls it data cable and only pays .10 per bl.

Christmas lights are not considered #2 Ins wire unless you cut all the bulbs off. We have a separate category just for Christmas lights which we are currently paying $.50/pound for.

You might also run into wiring off of cars which is called harness wire. This is the stuff that is inside the black plastic loom that is found inside the engine compartment. If you take the wire out of the plastic loom and cut all the plugs off you will get #2 ins wire price. If you don't cut the ends off expect to receive about half the price you would receive for #2 ins. Our current price on harness wire is also $.50/pound.
