It's copper
thanks...what throws me is the golden hue that it has when unwound..i have yet to encounter that..also its in a air tight case..leading me to wonder why the anti corrosion coating..so your completely sure?
now you have two posts hanging there in the last few minutes with no hint of a subject in the title. You would save a lot of people a lot of wasted time if you'd at least put something there besides "just a quick question" or "new and unimproved quick question- still no photo" , please ; )
lol but there is a photo this time....moderators can scrap that other post...since its irrelevant.
yes and the odd color that it has..i would assume copper..but again i have never seen that color before..it was from a high end PA..lots of silver and gold throughout..so i was just wondering if it was something other than copper..the case that it was in was air tight so i wouldnt think that it would need coating..i found numerous other windings with just bare copper.
the photo didn't load the first time i opened this thread lol
are you talking a PA System?
It could be the enamaling that they used on it that's giving it that color.
Copper is copper. Throw it in the #2 bucket.
thanks for all the info guys..yeah a PA..where a band hooks everything into..I appreciate the quick responses as well as the information..hopefully I can learn enough to answer some questions soon..anyone need help with autobody paint/repair lol
Its a relay, FFS. The coppers worth 2 cents & theres silver/copper in the contact points.
Silver plate in the contact points....?
On a good quality relay the contact points will have a very thin silver coating to make good electrical contact and minimize 'noise' in the circuit. This is especially true in audio equipment. The silver coating super thin and more than likely not enough to be concerned with.
As far as wire wound copper for relays, coils, motors, etc. it's all varnished in order to prevent the copper windings from shorting out.
