Question Found a 14k gold ring, beat to hell and run over and flattened. Where to cash it in?

While walking along a busy road (always with my head looking down) I saw what I thought was a bottle cap. I picked it up and saw it was a gold ring that was run over a bunch and flattened out almost beyond recognition. My question is this; take to a local "We buy gold" or local jeweler or send to place some of you may recommend? I can't imagine finding more, so I won't have the volume that others may send, and I only want to have cash in hand. It has a couple of small diamonds in it, but from what I've heard, that isn't worth much these days and too small to make earings out of them.

So for those who have come across old gold rings from clean outs etc, what do you do with them?
    Thanks, JPete.

any cash for gold place will do, but they will try and jerk you if you dont know what you're talking about.

you need to know the market price, and the recent market history when they try to argue trends. also, they need to test it and weigh it in front of you, and make sure to ask if they weigh grams or pennyweight. it makes a difference as a pennyweight it about 1.5grams, but they will offer you some price that sounds good (if it were price per gram).

i havent sold much gold in a number of years, but watch a video of gold testing on youtube like this one:

and then be ready to negotiate and walk away to the next shop. any jeweler will buy it too, and they all want ID. if they dont ask for ID, they are shady... which means their prices are probably low.

Another place that the metal detecting forum guys have reccomended is ARA. Becareful and know what you are doing before you sell. I personally have never heard of a good deal with a jewlry store but I'm sure it is possible. Mike.

As a baseline, my local silver/gold buyer pays $21 per gram for scrap 14K gold. Other reputable buyers should pay close to that.

I would send to refiner before I send to ebay. Midwest is paying 95% of spot on your weight. If you sell it on ebay for 100 percent of spot your only going to get 85 percent after paypal and ebay fees. You would have to sell it for 112% of spot to get the same 95% from midwest.

Thanks to all! It comes in at 0.1 ounce, but if it means even a little cash, why not? Thanks again, I will look into the suggestions and post up what I do and what I get.
    Thanks.

I second using ARA. American Recycling ? Dallas, Texas

They will pay you spot minus 2% for the recovered gold and return the stones to you when you get the check.

I have used them and they are great.

Most jewlery is not true karat as marked. Take a 14K ring, standards alow for the ring to be legaly at 13.5K in the US and possibly less in other countries. If your buyer is giving you true 14K value he is getting you some where else.
We buy electronic scrap, Gold Karat scrap, gold filled, refined gold, silver and many other item's.

Depends on how quickly you need to cash it in. I once found a beaten up 10K gold ring on the ground while I was pumping gas. I paid for my gas, drove across the street to a "cash for gold" place, and walked out of the store with about $35

Could I have gotten more if I had held on to it? Probably. But since it was only 10K, I figured that it took me 5 seconds to spot and find the ring, 90 seconds to drive across the street and walk into the store, and about a minute for the exchange transaction, start to finish. $35 for less than three minutes' of my time and no real work involved.

Hey, I've been on the hunt for a special gold ring, something that stands out from the usual designs. I'm drawn to unique styles that tell a story or hold sentimental value. However, I'm struggling to find inspiration beyond the typical options available in stores. Do any of you have recommendations for where to look or know of artisans who specialize in crafting one-of-a-kind gold rings? Whether it's vintage, custom-made, or a lesser-known designer, I'd love to hear your suggestions. Your input could help me find the perfect ring to cherish for years to come. Thanks in advance!
