Just a thought but when people "warn" of the gas in the tube, we should start asking that they provide the name of the gas. Then we'll know what precautions to take.

I think the IUPAC is working on adding vacuum to the periodic table, I think they're shooting for #-1. Lead on the other hand has been stuck at #82 for a while now, whether it's got glass or not.

I know ya said you were going to pass on them, but i must beg the question...Do any of them work? If so..take your time and sell'm off. Heck 3 bucks a tv an you just made 375 bucks.

I know when I got my buttload of 55 tv's from my wife's work (she's a mngr for a hotel) I did end up selling a couple.

I also have slowed down taking them but like today a pager/cell phone place going out of biz called me for 4 monitors........I took them but let the owner know this was not my normal activity and that I expected him to call me to clean out the old pagers and phones when he was done.....LOL

Its amaing how many people still believe theirs gas in CRTs. And now its ok to smash CRTs? That goes against everything anyones said on here...and soooo now if its not considered hazardous waste couldnt it technically be dumped off in a landfill? Or am I missing something...

Diff states have diff laws from what i have seen just do your best and follow local laws here there are no regulations that i know of
But the dump does seperate e waste

I believe your questions are answered here, they still have certain things you have to follow, and just throwing them in a landfill isn't one of them.

1:CRT containers are clearly labeled regarding contents;
2:CRTs are safely transported in containers designed to minimize releases;
3:CRTs are stored in a building or container designed to minimize releases; and
CRTs are stored on site less than one year before recycling them.

I believe this means that nothing is to touch the ground, not even the powder. And I know Indiana passed a law that basically has outlawed all electronics from the landfills with no alternatives.

Correct we do process CRT Glass and in some states its considered HAZ Waste.

Some Cities in some states have issued landfill bans on CRT's and electronics in general. Some have not so can it go to the land fill it quite possibly can depending on your state, city, or landfill (some are privatly owned).

it's all systems go here in oz'
we have a state of the art crt recycling facility so i've found and transfer stations to accept tv's free.
have dropped off about 60 tv's this past week already, there's 10 in the car all ready for the mornings drop.
I feel good about tv's again, knowing they'll actually be recycled properly, think I can make a little difference now..
my backyard is once again tv wonderland, although choice tv's now, no biggies unless their flat.

today I had to laugh, I never thought I'd see the day I'd be walking down the street with 2 pink barbie tv's,
but I didn't care, they have in built dvd's so I was excited.

I'd think you could get better than scrap prices for those if they work.

The last 5 or so TV's that my kids have had for their room were scrap barbie doll tv's.

They all worked great, till they accidently knock them off the stands. Now, I have them up to where they cant reach them lol

cord cutters got to 'em first, like most tv's I pick up, they are real pro's and follow the hard rubbish cycles like hawks.
took 3 weeks before I got a vacuum with a cord, I pulled it out and it just kept coming, now I prize a vac' with cord.

There is an environmentally safe way......... but not profitable. Even though those crt's are sealed you can still get fined. Dublak glass will recycle smashed crt's but they charge you. The cost will be far less than if the epa finds drums full of broken crt's (even sealed) with absolutely no plan for disposal........

Sometimes we just have to bite the bullet....
