    5.25 floppy drives...dont tear apart!

Just a little FYI for those that dont already know....instead of scrapping i'm selling on ebay all the 5.25" floppy drives i find for $25-$35 each including shipping. I've even advertised that they were NOT tested and i have no idea if they work. Cant tell you how many i threw in the scrap pile...live and learn!

If you want to make extra cash sell the floppy drive cables as well (the ones that have 4 connections, 2 x 3.5" and the 2x edge connectors for 5.25" drives).

Looking at the completed listings, I saw them selling for anywhere between $10 and $50

The 5.25 are popular with vintage computer people who use dos based programs and games. As far as the clicky keyboards i have sold a few IBM model M for between 15-30 bucks each depending on condition. Also popular with collectors.

never broke one down but I will say that there isnt anymore pm in them than whats in the new ones. I get .08# for them at one yrd I go to. When i get 20 or 30 i snip the cord and scrap the keyboard.

That is great advice, but it is very rare to get the real old stuff, but I will definitely be selling them when I do. Almost all the ones I saw, including the disks themselves, and the cables were selling!

The 5.25 " drives had two flavors. The Low density was 360 K and the high density was 1.2 MB.
XT (8088) MACHINES could only read 360 K disks and drives.
AT base machines 80286 or better CPU machines can read both.
My oringinal Dbase 3 Plus is on 360 K and very copy protected.

How can you tell the size of the floppy? I am sure it's a stupid question to most but I am curious.

Bull you are obviously in the under thirty age group...lol. The 5.25 floppy is exactly what it sounds like. It preceded the cd/DVD that you know. They were a disk that was 5.25 square and were very thin and well...floppy. Google it and take a look for yourself....man I feel really old right now....lmao.
