Might be worth more than scrap. I know I got a fuel pump for a big diesel generator that sold for way more than scrap. Couple hundred dollars.

I believe a DPF is similar to a catalytic converter, hence the question. What I don't know is if they have precious metals.

I've never dealt with them. If you decide to use them let us all know how your transaction went.

The newer Dodge DPF filters where the part number ends in "2ppa" are worth around $200 in scrap, but I am not familiar with a Mack DPF.

Surly if one off a pickup is bringing 200 then this on should bring way more. This thing is at least 4x the size of one off a pickup.

Whereas the ones from '07-'10 Fords are only worth around $50, while being a fair bit larger than those Dodges. And other Dodges, which look identical to the $200 "2198" DPF, but have the "7113" part number, are only worth $60. Yet another case where size really doesn't matter. It's all about the loading of PGMs inside the filter. Problem with big truck catalytic systems is that they aren't well known yet, which means that any pricing will be on the low end. Find the most reputable buyer in your area will be your best bet. You might be able to find some online pricing for that particular DPF, which might help you get a better price locally. I think shipping costs pretty much rule out anything not local, but I could be wrong.

Actually, the reason the new diesel converters have lower values on them right now is nobody has developed a great way to refine them yet. Something about the way they are manufactured makes it harder for the converter refiners to get the precious metal out, or maybe just more expensive. Like you said though, size definitely does not matter when it comes to converters, it is all about the contents of the bead.

Was the $200 scrap value or marketed somewhere else?
