    What am i missing?

Looking over some auction sites and see one listing for 700 pc's. Clearly states that these are missing hard drives and possibly other components. Total weight of load around 25k lbs. Technology looks to be a few years old from the pictures of the cases. Current high bidder is over $11,000. Seriously? My only guess is that some computer shop thinks they can get these working and sell as used, but still...thats over 700 units and the used computer market cant be that big right now. I guess i'm missing something here.....

Yes those on line auctions go for way to much plus you have to have a way to pick them up or have them shipped. I stay away from them unless I could get them real cheap ,like 2.00 or 3.00.

The better possibility is they are being shipped overseas. I have watched a few auctions now that are located in port cities or nearby like Newark, LA, SanDiego, Louisiana etc...and the winning bids are anywhere from20 to 40 bucks per tower. All missing hd's,memory, wires whatever. Then I watched a few auctions in the Midwest, lower Ohio, western PA and saw that similar lots were going for 5 to 15 per tower. The only thing I can think of is that the higher priced ones are getting loaded directly on container ships and going right out. I know that LCD monitors are used for tv's i in a lot of south and central American countries and that info I got directly from a broker that answered one of my cl ads. He said that he buys in lots of 750 to 1000 to ship there. They are easier to handle, lighter and cheaper than flat screen tv's. I dunno but from what I have watched it makes sense. To me.

I have noticed the same thing. I live in the Tampa bay area (florida) and the large lots of towers go foe way too much money and this is one of the largest shipping ports on the east coast other than Miami and jacksonvile.

The funny thing is I when I see an auction for let's say one server, poweredge 2900. It gets listed for 10.00 No one bids on them so I can get it for the minimum asking price. I have done this on a pretty consistent basis. Now when they list 4 or 5 together you can bet they are going for well over $500. I just think people don't put the time in to research things.

if you buy 1 tower or server for 5 or 10 bucks and go pick it up your cost is closer to 25 to 40 i.e. time+ vehicle+ fuel
