    what is this wire?

    this wire came out of a tv it was the big cable that goes around the back of the screen everything ive seen on scrapping tvs people say its copper it has a purple color and silver inside

    to me it looks like AL, but be sure.. what you can do is. gently sand it a bit,, or.. heat it up.. if it shrivels quick it al.

    That little piece sticking out on the left where its curled looks like a silver color so my guess is aluminum.

    Idaho is wright. It's aluminum. You can tell by the wieght, copper is much heavyer.

    hey everyone thanks a lot i do believe it is aluminum it dose have a very light weight for the size

    At the yards I've been to, it's "Prepared Aluminum".

    So far, every single monitor that I have scrapped yields a copper degaussing cable. Tvs however have a high percentage of aluminum ones. THe only copper ones with color I have found were red. Most assuradely this one is aluminum. You will be able to tell just by holding it the difference in weight. That will come in time.
