i have a regular kitchen stainless sink. i have removed all the extra non-ss metal but it still has that white insulation stuff that looks like it was sprayed on.. is that going to cause it to be "dirty?" if so is there an easy way to remove it? my back is about finished for this load so i will stop w/ my post of a thousand questions :O) thanks everyone.

nevermind on the sink question. i called and they said as long as its not globs.

well thanks everyone for the help. i did pretty well for the first time.. it was a learning experience. i did call ahead to see when they were busy, and explained that i had some stuff i was not sure about. they told me to come anytime but when i got there they were busy and the guys acted like he didnt want to help me to make sure what was what. in his defense it did look like a mess on the alum cart but it really wasnt.. it was separated pretty well i just wanted to know if some of the bags/boxes were going to be something besides sheet. i took the extrusion off the cart to take it to another place after i got blown off once but i tried again and the guy ended up saying yes that is extrusion but the rest is sheet. i dont think it was but i my back was too jacked up to put it back so i let it go. the yard is set up so that you stand in line and you can see what they are doing but they don't tell you what they are putting your stuff as. so if they decide that your box is dirty, they dont tell you they just weigh it and dump it and you find out when they give you the ticket. the guy told me at the end when he handed me the ticket that if i would have come earlier he could have helped more. i always give the benefit of doubt but i will probably go somewhere else for my alum if i have a lot of different stuff. so yeah i just realized they left off 25lbs of insulated #2.. i had a box w/ a garbage bag (25lbs) full of number 2 w/ a another bag of smaller number #2 that weighed about 8.4 and i just now see it has just the 8lbs. blah that makes me sick bc this is all the money i have for the month. i was worried that they were listing the small bag as alum bc some of it was coated copper.

well it looks like it was my fault for the 25lbs. i put all my extension cords, power cords and then the 55% or more wires together bc i thought they were all #2 and apparently they are not for this yard. they listed it as the wire harnesses. they only listed i had only 10lbs of alum trans/motors and i had 25 so i thought they took out the 2 of the big alum windings (if that is the word) from garbage disposals and put that under alum trans/motor and then put the rest under wire harnesses. so i guess what i am missing is 25lbs of these things. i dont know.. she said they take pictures as they weigh and to ask for her next time and they can pull the ticket but i was more concerned about missing 25$.

funny bc i thought the 8lb bag was going to be the one to be downgraded. it was all really small wire and some was coated. well now i know. i am not to crazy about the set up bc if they would have told me what it was going to be graded as i would have taken it home and probably had 10-15 lbs of stuff in there that was number 2. oh well.. now i know.

So no Dirty Alum or Die Cast stuff? You did good. How much per pound for your steel?

What I do is this... As I put each item on the scale I tell them what it is. If they check and pull something out they tell me. But what works well is when you have die cast and brass weigh the diecast first then the brass. Funny when they check the die cast its only .10 a pound! For Ins wire I start with #2 then #1 they don't look much at the #2 ins wire but they check the #1 every time. Any time they say something is dirty like a stainless steel sink I bring out my magnet and check it in front of them. Several times the item was not magnetic they just assumed it was!

well i did have some dirty alum but one of the employees i grabbed before i went to scale said most of it was too dirty and that only about 2 inches of plastic are allowed and maybe one or 2 screws so i threw most of it w/ the shred. the rest of it, probably 5-10 lbs, i dont know what happen to. it was on the cart but i dont see it on my ticket. they might have thrown it w/ something else. everything i had that was magnetic went w/ shred except for 2 rotors and a big steel thing that was thicker than 1/4 inch at one point i left in my cart bc they said if i pulled it in at that station it would be shred. i guess i was not even suppose to put my shred in the dumpster thing at that station bc it was to much. the guy told me when i pulled up to put stuff either in the dumpster thing or on carts. i put the steel in the dumpster and everythign else on 3 carts. i guess they have a bigger station that takes larger amounts of shred and all the other types of steel bc he said they couldnt do the 2 things as anything but shred there but if i took it around the building where the large station was it may go as something else.

as for putting it on the scale, they dont let you go near the scale. i had my stuff on the cart ready to do what you said. when i said that my alum cart looked a mess probably to the scale guy but it wasnt really.. i said that because i was ready to hand him each and it be simple, is this sheet or mlc or whatever.
you pull your stuff up and wait in line behind a bar. they take your carts and you can see the scale and i later saw the weight on the computer but they dont even look your way while they are doing the weighing. its loud and easy for them to ignore you. (not bashing them, its just how they are set up... i am sure they get a lot of bs but i think as a customer it could be handled a little better) i tried to get the guys attention but i only could when i walked over and they told me to go back behind the bar but i did get a question in but it was at the end.

thats why i said i dont like the set up. funny i called 2 yards before i left that were in the same area and specifically asked if i could be at the scale to one but i thought that i had been to this one before last year w/ some cans but i was wrong and it was not the same place. the place is 15mins from me and i have 4 other places 30 mins so i will use them when necessary. they all have similar prices w/ one being higher.

steel says on the says 9.25 cw. is that cubic weight? 9 cent lb maybe? the $/weight comes to .0928/lb
