What is this little Intel i960 thingy?

I think I grabbed a bunch of these out of slots that said, "modem." I was thinking of tossing the whole lot in with my memory, think that's ok? I know Intel i960 processors sell at 135/lb but this processor looks to be an IC chip, I don't see any gold on it so I presume there is nothing valuable about it.

The top one is the front and the bottom one is the back.

It is the Intel i860 xr chips that sell for $145 a pound. You can check at GoldChipBuyer Looks like the rest is a finger card but some of the ewaste gurus may chime in.

Resist pulling any soldered on chip untill you are certain it is the correct thing to do. Generally its ok to remove any chip that is pluged in not the ones soldered in. This case might be different but I would wait for a buyer to state their preference. Its usally best to send a photo via a PM to a/a few buyers to get their take on what to do. Mike.

Yeah that is the website I was using for reference, the I960 is the 5th chip down on the lost, the i860 xr is a totally seperate chip. I never thought about tossing them in with my finger cards, maybe that's what I should do.

Since it got fingers on it, I would just toss it into Your Finger Box... and You should be ok...

It would take a whole lot to get to 145.00 a pound... You'll get their faster if You toss em into your fingers..

Those need to be left on the board. When you remove those from the board you devalue the board and will be lucky to get much for it. The I960 on the board would be classifie as a plastic IC chip once removed from the board and only bring about $4.00 /lb. It is a different chip than the ceramic I960 chip on the website.

That's certainly some news there BR. They are clearly not a soldered part of any board, so how is it they should be left on it? I don't know what board they came off of, but from appearances they pop off in the very same way as any other add on, RAM, or finger board, which would never be left on. How is that these should be different ?

Bear, the I960 shown in the 1st picture (top left hand corner) of this thread by OP is not a ceramic I960 and it is soldered to the board and should be left on the board to retain the boards value. The ceramic I960 that I am showing in my picture is a ceramic I960 and should be removed and sold seperately from the board. Hope this helps.

Ahhhh! I see, I was thinking we were all addressing the entire pictured board, not a single chip on it, but now I recall that part of the question, which I thought that had long since been left behind. My apologies

i think it's fairly well known here Blue, and I would expect a frown from any buyer who finds chips burned or gouged out of a board. As has already been said, those type matters need to be addressed beforehand between you and your buyer ; )

no way its worth $145 pound its not a ceramic gold top. The best buyer i have found for slot cpus is paying $13 per pound.

I think you should do better than finger card with it, more like RAM grade
