clean or dirty brass?

    clean or dirty brass?

    have some old exterrior light fixtures. appear to be brass. color of brass and non magnetic. they have corroded some though, not rust just corroded and greenish from weather. would this be clean or dirty brass? no other metal attached

    Most likely Die cast zinc or cast alum. But if they are brass you should not jet knocked down to dirty brass as long as no other metal attached.

    thank you for the reply, fairly new so i am not familiar with those two metals. just know that the interrior parts of the lamps had the brass color and was non magnetic

    Get a file and marr it a little. If it is yellow underneith, its brass.

    If they are brass you should consider re-selling rather than scraping them. Most likely they are not brass so when you hit it with a file do it somewhere not easily seen. Mike.

    too late theyre all already broken down. but definately brass. used a file and revealed that shiny brass color

    if its magnet clean and there are not any other metals attached its clean brass
