What will they take as shredder stock? as in ferrous steel... Is there a minimum amount of plastic, rubber etc. they will accept? Or can you just throw it all into one barrel an forget about it? I know different yards have different policies. I would just like an educated answer from someone more experienced than myself.
It all depends on the rules of each yard. At my yard I get paid "appliance" rate for what I call shred. I recycle mostly computers and include most of the plastics that they contained. Think about how much plastic is included in a refrigator or dishwasher, all appliances have a fair amount of plastics. Mike.

It going to really depend on your yard. I would take a very clean load your first time to any yard. Scope out their practices and what the piles look like. I went from cleaning everything my first few loads to cleaning only some things.

I try to keep the fluff at no more then 10-15%.

I strip all the plastic off of computer cases and recycle it but my yard does not require it. Same thing when i part out cars. I had a car rejected once because i didnt cut a hole in the gas tank and another load rejected for not having a title for a car, but i was able to get both of those issues taken care of and sold all the steel.

By me its sheet iron. They will not take plastic tub dishwashers, fencing of any kind, things under pressure, bikes with tires on them. As stated all yards are different!
Typically when the market is running hot almost anything goes. When the market takes a down turn they become more picky/selective so you can expect deductions.

I agree when copper went up about a month ago they were giving me a good price without much fuss.......Took the same stuff a couple of weeks later and they wanted to downgrade everything I had.......Since I have boycotted this yard and have just been hoarding copper ever since (LOL)Originally Posted by Ewasted

My yard does...Shred is called #2 Unprepared Tin, next is #2 Prepared (no fluff and cut to size) and you get a little more $ and it goes on from there till you get to #1 HMS.
