Hi im just checking to see if anyone on SMF has used this company before? Im approaching thier min weight of 3000#'s, and was planning on driving the load down to them just to see actual results versus selling to secondary, Thoughts?

I haven't used or heard of them but they are not BBB accredited, they do however get an A+ rating. However, I personally am not a big fan of the 'refining' route, where you give a company boards, wait for them to process the lot, then get the money. Years ago my dad tried this with a company in Massachusetts and had a horrible experience. I don't like that they charge to refine the material either and have a lot fee of $350. To me it is just too risky and requires an awfully significant amount of trust and if the minimum weight is 3000lbs+ it only adds to the risk, that is a lot of material to risk/wager. Also, their wait period seems to be a while, 25-35 days from the day of receipt, so I don't think you would leave that day with a check. They seem to be in the same state as you so no doubt that is a plus.
Do they buy boards by the pound? Such as, "fingercards= 4.60/lb, motherboards = x/lb" etc.... From their website it doesn't seem like it. I think you would be better off going with a buyer from the forums, at least that way you can read the reviews and see what people say. With the amount of weight you have you could very well be better off spending the extra money finding someone out of state, I think there are some decent buyers in New York, but I would check out the buyers/sellers thread because there are some people on the forum that pay pretty well.
I just sent about 2500+lbs to Ewasted, my first load. He is the longest standing and most reputable buyer on the forum, having literally hundreds of positive reviews. I can't find hardly any reviews on Specialty Metals Smelters & Refiners LLC. I, like most people, sold by the lb, this will clarify what I mean: http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/scrap...tal-scrap.html I took the freight route and, though I now know I have more, I put 2000lbs down and with me loading it the total cost was $233 and there are no other fees whatsoever.
You can find plenty of buyers here: Scrap Buyers & Sellers
That's just my two cents, do you know what kind of material you have? Such as motherboards, backplanes, telecom, ram, cpu's, etc? Going by the price/lb method you could leave the same day with the check if you drove it somewhere or get a check in the mail should you freight your material to a differnt buyer.
Good luck

Depending on your location in CT, you have a buyer on the forum that is within 3 hrs from you.
I would rather go with something that i know rather than something that will be a complete unknown, and if you are talking 3k lbs, I know i wouldnt want to risk that much.
Correct me if i am wrong but the way i looked at their site, they charge $350 to process regardless of ammount pluss $1.25 per pound treatment fee, then you get 98% of the gold and silver and 97% of the platinum and palladium.
So if my math is correct you will send them $4100 pluss 3K lbs of boards and hope and pray that they are good refiners and you get at least 2.4oz gold back just to cover what you have to pay them then if you only have mother boards figure $3 lb, you would need to recover another 5.3oz of gold to cover what one of the buyers here would pay you for your boards. I doesnt look like the give you anything back on the copper they process out of what you send them.
If I am wrong let me know, but I wouldnt do it.

Also as Brandon has asked I would as well why don't I get the copper as well? Mike
"Profit begins when you buy NOT when you sell." {quote passed down to me from a wise man}
Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked
You shouldnt use a refiner that doesnt pay copper. Thats my 2 cents.
Thanks for all the great input. Looks like I am going to have a lot to think about. I still plan on making contact with them and discuss in detail their process, but you all have given me more to question. I did realize i would be losing some of the profit(lot charge and $/lb for processing and refining) but took the liberty of removing any AL and copper bearing parts on the boards to maximize lbs/PM. I started this venture six months ago with $400 now have $1000 plus the boards, ram, cpu's etc.. all in spare work time so its not all about the $$$ just curious to its true value but a little still worried about getting hosed
I honestly think you should sign into this forum and do a bunch of reading as they have good and bad reviews of some of the refiners the members have used, you might find out the scoop on them.Looks like I am going to have a lot to think about. I still plan on making contact with them and discuss in detail their process, but you all have given me more to question.

Metal Refinery should be specialized and accurate. They verify precious metal refining for customers throughout market and demand the returns and their work meets or exceeds industry standards, and service delivered with integrity and accountability. Using today's most advanced refinery, sampling and assaying technology, performed are highly trained specialists and chemists with decades of industry experience.
And I will say that I was very unhappy.. lower than what the material would bring as scrap.
And I hand sorted out the good stuff to ship to Dan.. while I took the lowest grade in and got 14.50 lb..... His return on 160 LBS of ram was a hair over 1 to au and less than .5 PL

You will never get even close refining ram as you will just selling to the buyers here on the forum. Why? Because all the buyers here on the forum are looking for usable ram and paying a premium for the scrap stuff. Why you think I started the more then scrap value stuff in the first place.
