I have some questions about I486 dx CPUs

I have one I486 dx appears to be be in perfect condition. I see them selling on eBay from 15$-35$. Just curious why such a diffence and should I just send it to ewasted with some other CPUs and memory I have? Also wondering what one of these are worth as scrap?

Best I can tell you is they go for $135lb-$150lb takes aprox 20 of them to make lb so your lookin at $6-$8 for one. As far as ebay goes if you haven't tested it you can't sell it as used and if you have and it works the price you get will depend on return policies and of course feedback rating. Hope that helps

I have two of them soldered. Some suggest it would devalue the board if you remove it. I left mine intact. I don't see much gold content on mine however. Let me know what you do with yours.

I'm probably just gonna send it in to Ewasted. Ya the one I have pulled right off and is very pretty on the backside!

This is a old thread I found in a search.

    I have two 'different' 486 CPU's.
One is a 'Intel Overdrive' DX40. It has a black finned heatsink covering the cap, with a slight gap on one end and in the gap there are several SMD capactors attached directly to the Purple ceramic.
Its got this written on the heatsink. Its also still on the motherboard. Is there any extra value in these CPU?

    DX40 DP100
    C5060054
    SZ957 V11
    Intel '89 '93

And the other is a 486 with the standard clean purple ceramic cap but thats attached to a fibreglass board with the Gold pins attached to the fibreglass.

    Intel i486 SX
    KU 80486SX - 25
    C3180320
    SX683
    Intel 1989

I also have a rare 'purple piggyback' chip. Its got the top chip, inc label, in new condition.
Theres a picture of one on the web. google 'eesakiwi' in google images to find it.

    Its a Mostec MK38P70/02J

That will bring up pics, most don't have the top chip, or label, in used condition.

    maybe try this> [url=http://www.decadecounter.com/vta/pic4/mk38p70_2.jpg/url]
