I got some wine champagne glasses similar to these today.
Is it worth saving these, or would anyone buy/refine this type of material? I figure since it is engraved maybe it is a little thicker plating? The ones I bought also have a gold ring on the lip and base and that seems to be thinner plating. Do I sand the plating off and save the dust?

That looks like a nice set, and would probably be worth me selling as-is. There are people, however, that refine the gold from glassware.

Why would you scrap those? You should use them yourself so you could feel like one of those fancy rich people. All you would need is a monocle to complete the look!

I thin selling a set on Ebay bring you more money than scraping. Also some time ago I've seen something about this purple glass. Do not remember now, but that was pretty expensive glass, so dig in first. May be worth more than you think.

Sorry those aren't mine just a picture. Mine seem to be crystal but not purple, that picture was just to show how the gold embossing is.

They use a mix of HCL acid & hydrogen peroxide to remove the gold from glass.
There isn't a lot of gold on the glass FYI, you need a LOT of glasses to get any amount of gold.
Red glass does have gold in it. However, its not viable to get the gold out as it doesn't take much gold to make glass red in the first place, and its not a easy thing to do.

I used to process a lot of this type of material, super simple to refine if you come across a refiner that does it. It's literally as easy as mixing HCl with Bleach to strip, and precipitating with SMB.
If you come across a refiner that's interested, but isn't sure how to run the material, I'll give them a step by step for you.

My mom had gobs of glasses even fancier than that. My dad was a master craftsman and built her a fine hutch to set them all in. My sister had it all at her place when her house burnt down. Is there any way I can recover the gold from the ashes?

I love the design of these champagne glasses and it become look gorgeous because of having a golden plate. Well, it's up to you if you want to keep it, sell or make it as holiday gift.

that's an easy $125 on ebay maybe a little bit higher I am not sure of the markings on them from the pic but just as a common set should do at least $125
