I need help identifying this object

Hi, I recently got a metal detector and I was trying it out. I live on a piece of property that was owned by British colonists, so I thought I would find some cool things. I did find some stuff, but I found this thing and I couldn't figure out what it is. I think it may be copper because of the bluish greenish stuff on it and when I scratch it it leaves a brown streak (the color of an old penny) on the body. I was hoping maybe you could help me identify it.

Here are the links to the pics:

    Thanks a bunch!

Appears to me to be a holder of some sort. I doubt copper, it looks more like rough ironwork. Did you check it with a magnet?
As far as what it held I have no clue, possibly a flagpole, a lamp, or any number of things, just guessing anyway
The three holes would have been to bolt or attach it on to something, a wall, a gateway, a ship, more guesses ; )

In my experience metal detecting you are going to run across a lot of objects you can't identify. My best advise is get a sturdy box for those objects and you may id them later. Perhaps one day when the wife is dragging you through an antique store you will see its "brother" then you will know. If you are not already a member of the following metal detecting forum I highly reccomend it. Mike.

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked

WOW!! Toothless your good, I was going to say it looks like some kind of cutter blade like a can opener because of the piont on the end but your pic. makes more sense.

the original photo had some heavy shadows that blocked alot of the detail
once i got it into photoshop and started pushing some buttons the hidden stuff offered more clues

if adamperak can take a few more shots from different angles showing the hole and blade in better light........

the hardest part was finding a good pic of twine to swipe
