seeing as how at a few dif. scrap yards i've seen things pointing towards "requesting a container" to take home to put scrap in.. How does this system work?

I don't know as there is any "system". Some yards may have a dumpster that they'd bring to your site if you're a "large volume" operation. Or they might give you a gaylord for the asking.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
by system i meant just the basic means of how it works,
would they bring the container/come get it?
give you one to carry with you and bring it back?
im clueless haha
my local yard will drop off a dumpster for me and pick it up when its full for $100. He weighs the container empty/full to determine the amount of steel, deducts the $100 and sends me the rest or I can go pickup a check. The amount of steel I can put in 1 dumpster would take me a number of trips with a truck/trailer so it actually saves me a lot of time/money on big jobs. Other yards I use locally dont offer this service.
