Aluminum thermo bond

I've got a load of windows. Took the glass out and disposed of it. Going through the pile, I've got some of the extrusion is bonded with foam. Took the grinder to it to clean it up, lotsa dust, too much dust. How does one remove it for best price?
How does your yard treat this extrusion? What kind of price do you guys and gals get?

Is it this stuff?Great Stuff | Window & Door Insulating Foam Sealant, 454 g | Home Depot Canada If so, a razor blade paint scraper or box cutter works best for me. Definitely don't heat it - you'll have a sticky mess.

Thanks for the replies. This stuff bonds and insulates 2 pieces of extrusion together. I can seperate then by prying them apart, then it cracks open but its hard and very hard to remove. I'll post a pic soon.

Sometimes it's just not worth the difference and you just got to throw it in the dirty aluminum pile.

i clean off what i can and then let them decide what goes in the cleAN or dirty pile

I have some of this & its sat where I put it over a year ago.

It came from the top leading edge of a commerical deepfreeze that contains iceblocks & such.

I ripped out the Ali dimpled sheetmetal from the inside (which had glue on it) & cut the extrusion in 1/2 so it could fit in the sack.

The top outer corners are fixed together with joins & grubscrews (so its got some Iron in it..) & then popriveted together & then the expanded foam is poured in.

I have a coil of Ali tubing that came off the same job I think, its got the same foam stuck to it, scraping it off does nothing except leaving a bunch of rows of the foam on the tubing.

It'll probably get sold as 'dirty Ali' (I dunno if we have that grade here) or I will put a bonfire under it & try to melt the foam off.
I don't expect the burning to help much, it'll make soot & carbon on the Ali & as Alis got great heat transfer abilitys, the heat will be wicked away too fast to do much.

I turned in my alum. extrusion. The foam bonded stuff I got irony aluminum 0.17 cents a pound. Thievery!
Got 0.76 cents for the clean extruded. Could have been worth the effort to clean up but what a job!
Sometimes you have to figure time/profit at this point better to concentrate on the better/pay more stuff.

Keep in mind you can always pull your item if you don't like what category they are going to put it in...take it home and clean it up.

I've always got clean extruded if it had stuff like that on it, as long as there wasn't any screws or pieces of steel on it.

One place I went to, once you have put it on the scale & its left your hand, its theirs. You cannot pick it back up to take it away again. All thats remaining to happen is for them to pay you for whats on the scale.

It might be a Kg thing. Like if the last bundle dumped on the scale didn't up the reading, then why not take it back off again? Your'e not getting paid for it are you? You might as well take it back home & use it as the start of your next pile?

But, what I think was going on in their mind was that
"Fk, these guys are bringing in scrapmetal to sell to me. I pay them cash, how else can they do this sort of cash for f/all deal. I run this place, not them. I denote the rules, not them, I have the ca$h, not them. They want My ca$h, then they give me all their scrap & I will pay $$$ for it, no mukkin around, in & out & carry the $$ home with you. But the metal? ITS MINE!"

1 Lb metal extra per person every day would add up to a lot I guess. (I'm thing the average over a Kg would be a Lb, ie a little under a 1/2Kg.. Yeah, we went metric in '68)

I could see that happening, the foam amounts to little is weight or volume I think it shouldn't matter. It just looks bad thats all.
