So dad and I picked up this fridge (barely made it) it was so ****ed heavy. Couldn't figure out why, its not that big, smaller than my house fridge.
Got to looking at it in the daytime and the compressor on this thing is as big as a five gallon bucket I kid you not!
Got to reading the tag and see that its SD as refrigerant.
Do freon recovery guys empty these as well?
it has to be from the late 1920's, early 30's I'd think.

Never had one with SD but I know it's bad news...glad you saw the markings on it.

Check out the following link (The History of the Refrigerator - and Freezer) which states
"Refrigerators from the late 1800s until 1929 used the toxic gases ammonia (NH3), methyl chloride (CH3Cl), and sulfur dioxide (SO2) as refrigerants. Several fatal accidents occurred in the 1920s when methyl chloride leaked out of refrigerators. "
Needs to be dealt with safely for sure but you may have something that a collector would want.

no pics Russell, its at my dads but the compressor is huge and round with ''fin'' type spokes around it.
