in the 80s Coleman might have still been a good brand, machines that lasted forever if cared for. Have you checked to see if there may be a market for parts somewhere ?
craigslist if theyre working or ebay the parts/units
I buy and sell all types of scrap and escrap. I buy specialty and hard to sell escrap. I buy resale items. PM me or contact me at jghilino@hotmail.com
I AM ACTIVELY BUYING ESCRAP OF ALL TYPES. BOARDS, RAM, CPUS AND MUCH MORE
maybe call an RV dealer or two, talk to the repair shop there
Bear, I have not checked to see of their is a parts market out there.....not being a resident or lived in Texas for a while I am unfamiliar with this area.....any ideas on where to start? I have contacted RV repair shops but they do not even want to look at them as they just usually replace rooftop units with new! Would a recycling company take the entire rooftop a/c?
I don't think craigslist will work for these units.....they are needing some work. But I will check out the ebay parts/units section. Thanks!!!!
The repair shops want nothing to do with these units for some reason! Wierd! Thanks!
id get pics and craigslist them, you never know what people will buy, the issue with scrapping them is they have to be evacuated properly first and that costs money
Adding to JGs suggestion, which is probably your best route, and depending on your ability to set them aside for awhile and wait, that could work. It's things that someone could eventually be looking for, not that everybody will be wanting one right now. Once you get your craigslist ad written and posted, they're easy to renew and repost, you're only a couple of clicks away from renewing the ad. Ads like this don't need to be on top of the page to be seen, because it's an item that when wanted, people will be searching for(not that it must be in front of their face, they will be digging to find it) It's worked several times for me, while not using ebay has it's drawbacks, you can still sell items like that over time. People don't look at it as a come on or something, as they would say a solid gold rolex for only 29.95, and I can insist on a USPS money order up front(which offers fraud protection for both the buyer and the seller) that can't be revoked with a simple complaint to their credit card company and then I've lost my item and paid their shipping(they must have a valid fraud complaint in this case). If you list them in San Antonio area, you'll eventually get inquiries from anywhere in the country, from people who are looking hard to find that one particular item. I've had people email about listings I'd all but forgotten about, from anywhere in the country, pointing out one item in the corner of a photo, saying, "I need THAT!"
In case this isn't something you'd even want to think about, at least they should be small enough to load in the car or truck, and take to someone who can evacuate them and recover the coolant, so you can tear them down and scrap em
At least there's two choices, as the saying goes, your mileage may vary, just depends on which way you want to go with it
Heck post'm up on Cl like Bear and JG say. TX has a huge full time rv population, you could probably sell'm to someone needing parts for their older rv. Even mobile rv mechanics might be interested. I know Livingston TX is home to one of the bigger rv clubs. Escapes is the name an they are based there an act as rv action network and many other things for folks who full time. Can't hurt to try!
No matter what you decide wish you luck!
Sirscrapalot - Is in touch with the rv community..weekend warriors and the full timers.
That would be Escapees RV club. I believe they even have a Discussion Forum, might be worth a try!
If the OP actually searched for it...he would get the correct spelling. An yes they have a forum..slow, not as active as it once was, but yes it's there.
An thank you for bringing this back up, just to correct my spelling.
Sirscrapalot - Is quite familiar with RV'ing in all it's forms.

RV (2006)
Funny movie!
The black tank clean out scene was to funny..or the riding on the windshield of the RV.
Man I miss me some Robin Williams.
/sigh
Sirscrapalot - Oh yes sir, and how they suffer. One man I know suffers so much he has to take a medication called bourbon, even that doesn't help very much because then he can hear paint dry. - Mork, reporting to Orson on Loneliness
