CRT TV's - Why do people pick them up on the Curb?

the cord is only a small percentage of the copper, you need to break one down to see what your missing, just dont break the tube

Am I missing something? Is there some magical place to drop off Tv's whole and get some kind of $$ for them?

See, right here is a prime example of why we tell people to do some reading. And this article is even a sticky.
We tear them down, get the goodies and recycle the rest. We even had a member that made a business of breaking down TV's.

You can put they cover back on and take it back after pulling the copper and low grade board out, those free ewaste drops are large companys that the government pays for disposial. We have a special tax now for electronics they get like 24 bucks for every crt they process, they have fixed rates different sizes two prices One for over 24" and under. That's enough to plus they sell the plastic

And don't forget the "silver" wire down around the tube, it's tinned copper also.

See the tinned copper braid with the black wire attached to it. It also has small springs attached to it. Also the yellow crimp clips are brass tabs.

Close up of the yoke and degaussing cable around the tube. Small silver braid wire is actually copper braid, and degaussing cable is larger black cable that goes around the tube. Yoke still attached. (degaussing cable is usually copper or alum. wire wrapped in black tape)

Far as time..once you do enough of them, it takes minutes to break on one down, strip it of goodies, an close it all back up, or whatever you do with them after.
