I've arranged for a pick-up of two older (not plastic) riding lawn mowers at a cost of $15 for the entire load. I've never broken down lawn mowers before, but I imagine it can't be much harder than the four-wheeler I've done. Is 15 dollars a good price for two mowers?

Assuming that you are talking about regular home-owner sized mowers: Are you handy with small engines? If they are fixable, then you can make a few bucks. If they are toast, then I'm guessing you will probably not make profit on that deal, between gas and time and purchase price.
Edited to add: If they are going for scrap, it also depends on how much aluminum is on there, too. That could make a big difference with regard to profitability on those.

Thanks Wolfwerx for the quick response. I am, indeed, referring to homeowner style riding mowers. I'm also not worried about the 'cost' of my time, per se. These are older mowers that are heavy, but I don't have an exact weight so I'm having a hard time deciding if it's worth it. He's a friend of mine, but won't budge off 15 bucks. If I manage to break even, that's not a problem. I enjoy this, and I'm in a slump right now. Plus, I scavenge parts from them, and they're worth more to me than I get from the whole load in scrap, often times.

riding mowers are worth it, push mowers would not be worth it unless they have aluminum decks.

What is the "overall" appearance and condition of them? I have flipped a few to a local mower shop for 20-30 bucks each.
If you break them down, well, 15 is cheap education and you should make something.
EDIT guess we were all posting at the same time.
Riding mowers...you should be alright. I would still see if you can find a buyer "as is" that does repairs. I have a gentleman that posts on CL about 40 minutes from me. Buys them for parts. Have sold a few to him between 50-150. Now that one for the 150 was clean with a blown engine. But, hey...it never hurts to look for the quick turnaround that may get you more for your time and effort. my 2

The overall appearance and condition? Rust. Bucket. Yeah, that about sums it up. I was hoping that the mowers would at least get my money back at scrap price. And, I break everything down fully.

Friend or not, if you wont make a profit, then offer less, if you are really set on paying. If he wont budge, move on.

I love getting lawn mowers. Push mowers as long as there's not engine damage easy 20$-30$ as is on craigslist. I got 2 riding mowers for free from craigslist an a cement mixer one time. Put the mixer back on cl got 110$. The mowers needed some cleaning from the flywheel carb cleaner an charge the battery they both work great I use the one every week. If you can get them running u can probly get an easy 100$ each. Look at how much the want for them now days at lowes an home depot. I alwas see wanted ads for them

Thanks, guys, for your opinions. Just for anyone that may have been interested, I made my money back on the first mower for sure. The deck of one alone nearly paid for both mowers. I haven't hauled the rest of it off because it's going on another load.

To come off decent, you may hope to fix them up and move them that way or sell by parts. Other than that, it's a crap shoot.

Wheels, seats, hoods, steering wheel, etc. off decent models all sell well around here on craigslist. some other parts too if you have the time
