    Chrome IDing

Is there any way to tell chrome apart from other metals? I have some pieces of what I think are chrome that came from a car. Also, what's it worth per pound?

There's nothing more fun and more effective than hitting something repeatedly with a sledgehammer

I think what you have is chrome plated, not solid chrome. as far as a scrap yard is concerned, it would probably be bought as stainless steel, i'm guessing. Not many yards buy pure chrome because it is rarely found in consumer products.

If you're talking about like bumpers, the yards around here take it as Light Iron.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Seriously? I thought I had come across something valuable.

What's the metal under the chrome if it is chrome plated? I know it isn't steel because it's not magnetic

    Edit:
    It's not a bumper, it's a bit of trim

It's not? Forget what I said, then.

My guess then is that it is stainless, if it is metal at all! In the 80's the discovery of chrome plated plastic was a gift sent from heaven for car makers.
