Hello
Scrap Metal Forum, I come to you for your expertise.
I'm a homebrewer and I'm looking to expand my brewing operations by making a HERMS (Heat Exchanging Recirculating Mash System) using 3 keggles. A keggle is a 15.5 gallon standard keg that's been modified to be a kettle.
Here's my dilemma, I can't find anywhere to buy a keg from. I'm looking to buy an empty keg, not one with beer in it, for several reasons. 1. it's cheaper than buying the keg with the beer in it 2. my beer is probably better than what was in it previously 3. Not returning a keg after a deposit was paid is considered theft and is frowned upon by the homebrewing community.
I went to local scrap yard and inquired about kegs, they told me it was against the law to buy or sell kegs (I live in Michigan). I looked at the legislature's site and wasn't able to find any law that explicitly stated that, a lot about fingerprinting and record keeping but nothing about kegs.
Can anyone give me an idea of where to find these kegs?
