This I wonder. Anybody in Michigan, (prefer Northern) buying Copper Yokes for more than electric motor prices? I have a good amount of them and just no time to break them down. I will however find the time if I can only get motor pricing. Any suggestions?

Up to you if you pick the ferrite out or not. Otherwise just dump it all in the trash.

Thanks Mechanic, I do pretty much the same thing, just run into a bit of a limited time frame. I've seen a couple buyers on here for whole units at anywhere from .70 - $1.00 or so a lb, so just looking for a quicker move. Thanks again for the advice!

I take it when people buy them it is with all the plastic remove (just windings, ferrite and resin). I have about a dozen complete yokes I need to break down.

My understanding is they buy them just like they come off the tube. Maybe we need a little clarification here,,,

Yes, right off the tube I usually get motor price. No prep work needed. If I clean them up and just take in the copper, I get what ever grade the copper is. (bare bright, enameled, etc)

Just the copper would be #2 copper. Unprepared would be Copper Bearing (Motor).
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Wow. Anybody that has whole yokes for sale for motor price in the Indy area, step right up because I am on that all day.
You are losing out big time by not striping them yourself. It is the easiest job a scrapper can find.

Yeah it's pretty easy. I just don't have a ton of free time so I'm always looking for other options that don't fully shoot me in the foot.

Same way as you crush cans take 2 pieces of plywood on the ground. Put yokes in between the sheets. Drive your vehicle back and forth a bunch of time and pick out the copper.

Not the worst idea I've heard. May try it sometime. I usually use the "smash and grab" method with an old towel and my sledge.

I zip my grinder across the windings (don't have to press hard, digging into the ferrite dulls the wheel faster than necessary), and the copper pops right off, even with big globs of resin attached.

how long do you's think crt's are going to last in the U.S.?
here in Australia it looks as though there's only a few months of 'em left.
already noticing a lot less out and about, our analogue system is being switched off now so not much use for them.
i'm looking forward to just flat screens, that'll be great, i'll miss the yokes but my back won't miss the crt's.

A while yet id say. My parents still own some along with flat screens as well. Iv got a 50in plasma but my brother still uses an older CRT TV. See em online for free all the time. They switched all the tv from analog to digital but all you gotta do is buy a little box that converts the digital signal to analog. We used to get a few chanels up north at the cottage but since they went digital we got nothin till we bought the converter.
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...
