Lightbulb Disabled & Recycling - Nashville

    Hiya All

I can tear down electronics & computers as long as my hands cooperate. My problem is I use a cane and/or power chair. I am unable to lift my bins in the yard bin to be weighed. I'm unable to stand for very long.

Also, Bay Metals only wants to give me like .08c for my boards. I may be new to this but not stupid My stuff is small lots. As I can only tear down things a little at a time.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

P.S. : jimicrk if you read this contact me pretty please. 865-603-5051

As far as buyers for your boards, check out our buyers here, they have some of the best prices around.
My local yard will help unload if I ask them, if I have appliances on the truck they will use the big claw and take them off.
Even when I have quite a bit of nonferrous, they will help carry it into the smaller scale.

I would ship my boards to an ewaste buyer like a reputable one from this forum. Fed ex will pick up boxes from your front door. You will make much more on your boards this way. I have sold to several buyers from here and all have been good experiences. One of the buyers even came and picked it up himself, but it was a large load.

First thing DC, you're gonna need some help. I'm hoping you'll find someone who'll be generous enough with their time to help you get set up and started, possibly another scrapper who'll pick you up or let you know when they're going to the yard, so yall can go there together.

Shelves and benches at a height you can comfortably reach will be very valuable, and with a good eye you(or they) might happen onto things like this most anywhere or anytime. If they are close enough together and organized so you can slide the boxes around instead of having to lift them it will also help a lot. If you have problems finding the things you need to work with being disposed of somewhere, Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Thrift stores might be the place to look, and might even reduce some less attractive tables and shelves for you, and possibly even call you when they find something, if you ask em to.

If the closest yard isn't paying well, the best option there may be to look farther away, it seems the closer you get to larger towns the better their prices become. You may need to save up larger loads to pay for going the distance. Also any computer boards(most any green boards actually, printer boards, hard drive boards, CD/DVD boards etc) are best shipped to buyers here on the forum.

Ads on Freecycle could also net you all the above, and possibly a good bit of scrap computers/material. You can join FC groups in several areas for better coverage of the area/s you're in

You might also find posting on Facebook clubs/groups/ swap shops to be to your advantage

    Good luck with it man

Thanks for the advice I really appreciate it I'm hoping jimicrk will read this post and give me a call. I'm unable to PM him. He goes to the same yard I do. The boards I sort are either gold bearing or not.

I picked 2 nice work tables and 3 shelving units. I've have to buy more bins. I think I have all the tools I need. Although, I am looking for a 1/8 socket driver for my tiny bits.

I know for a fact today they shorted me. I had almost 3lbs of copper #2 and their weight was 1lb. Hum... I weighed it before I left home. I know that 3lbs of anything is nothing for a yard. Small loads are chump change for them. However, I did make $30 today It's not much but will get me a good pizza LOL

    Thanks again

    Peace
    Lee

I agree with Bear. Unacceptable. Don't let them play games with you. Granted it could've been a goof on their parts, but these days one has to stay on their toes when dealing with the yards. Next time, I'd make note of my weights, an when they differ, I'd ask'm to re-weigh or getcha stuff back an go on down the road. Plenty of buyers here on the forums for your gold baring boards, an such, an that would help ya not have to worry over a ride to the yard, not to mention ya got Mike right down there by ya, an as he said in a prior post..he pays much better then the yards.

Good luck an keep your on those scale guys!

Like a few people stated above stick with the buyers here. Most scrap yards are not educated on ewaste or they are and figure most scrappers aren't. Enjoy your pizza

Lee, once in a while the scale at the yards will not weigh accurately on the low end of the scale. Wait till you have 10 or 20 lb of copper before you take it in. Then it might be closer to the mark.

Thanks Sirscrapalot Mechanic688 BRASSCATCHER Bear I figured they were just taking advantage of a woman?!

I took in some aluminum (.49c), copper ($2.49) for #2, and phone chargers (70c), steel (.08c)

I see that micro lots aren't going to work. BTW: What do I remove from these boards? Like the phone ports, co-axil ports etc...?

    Peace

Hi Lee. I'm not sure why you can't PM me. I'm new here too and I may not have my settings where people can contact me. I will contact you later this afternoon or tonight. I did take some #2 there on Wed. and got 2.49 lb. I carry my copper in 5 gallon buckets and they subtract 2 lbs per bucket. As for the circuit boards, I only take my low grade (brown) boards there and get .10 per lb. I'm saving all of the good boards until I am ready to find a buyer.
