I googled before I posted: stainless or brass? 318 L and 308 CGA 626

one metal has 318 L stamped another has 308 then below CGA 626 stamped.



Pretty sure the CGA 626 is stainless but I want to make sure the 318 L isn't brass.

Ok, make sure that's not 316 L. I have some stainless flat bar that's 304 L and I've seen 316 L, but haven't run across anything with 318 L on it. 316 L would definitely be stainless.

The spark test will help--SS sparks a little, brass not at all when touched to a grinding wheel.

Take a look at the ground surface, too. The brass will be yellowish, the SS shiny, steel-coloured. Also, a magnet may be faintly attracted to the SS...just faintly. This is hard to tell sometimes...I've seen the experts use a magnet dangled from a keychain so it is easier to tell if there is a faint attraction.

CGA 626 should be a Nitric Oxide Pressure Regulator this iteam should be stainless and for the part stamped 318L? i only know of 318 stainless and it come in pipe. 318 stainless is close to a 304 stainless. If there is a 318L stainless the L- at the end would stand for low carbon. I hope this helps you out a bit )
