    Aluminum questions in illinois

My family is in the bar business. We serve beer in cans, they are crushed and then loaded into a semi trailer. For years we have been selling to a buyer when our semi trailer is full. Our previous buyer is no longer available, or not in the business, or something. We have lost contact. Now we are have almost filled a 2nd trailer, and its time to unload them.

We are south of 80. Would it pay to bring it to Chicago, or stick with a facility near the Illinois or Mississippi river. Obviously, we want to get the highest price. Transporting the trailers is not an issue.

    Thanks in advance.

Well, if it were me, I'd call some yards. Tell them what I have and what is their best price on such a load. Figure out how far away you'd be willing to take the trailer(s), and call those yards. Then figure up your time, fuel, etc. For example, if you could make $400 more taking it to a yard further away, but it costs $800 to get it there, that wouldn't be terribly wise. That kind of math only "works" in the government.

I agree, fuel cost will be considered when a decision is made.

I might go so far as to call a few mills and see where there's comes from, kinda backtrack the trail a bit
