Based on the Forum's experience, when is the best time to cash in one's horde of aluminum cans? For example is the winter months better than the summer months to get the best price or is there really no difference price wise when you haul them in?
At first glance I would think it would think winter would be the best time; however, since I live in San Antonio, TX where we really don't have a winter relative to the northern states, I not sure and would really appreciate your opinions. Thank you.

I haul my scrap in every week or as soon as I get a container full. I don't try to time the market, I get my money when I can.

I usually make a trip a week or at least every two weeks. As soon as I get a truck load no matter what it is. As I get cans (I have a few ppl to save them for me) I crush them up (still wanting to try the board method;-) lol) and bag them in feed sacks. Scrap is about like the stock market, u never know what it is going to do as for prices. U might want to call ur yard to get an idea of the price per pound before u go just to make sure u get a good price. Right now cans are 61 cents lb here (ky), 66 if over 100 lbs
.45 lb here, havent moved in 7-8 months

Yep.. Aluminum prices are in the dumper. No sense in waiting 6 months for POSSIBLY another .05/lb.. Cash in and take what you can get.. much easier than trying to hold on aluminum prices!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

The price seems to go along with supply and demand, not a pattern per say.

Since I have been scrapping(little over a year now) I haven't seen can prices change much by me. Been .55-.60/LB here. Have a 55 gallon barrel in the garage and I take them in once it is full or need some money for gas or whatever. Try to hold off till full though. Plus I crush them before they go in.

Once a month I haul mine in with a load. It buys a cheap lunch. In fact that is the only Christmas Bonus my boss offered this year.

Its like paying the stock market. when it hits .55-.60 is would sell. usually that's pretty good price up here. Buy low sell high for the best return.
