Someone needs to be put in there place!!!!!

so i've been scrapping appliances and the guy is only paying $100/ton. my truck is a 88 ext cab long box and i use a trailer, but some how i can't seem to make it past 200 a load and i confronted the yard owner his scale is not zeroed out before i get on there. He cames if he starts the day and one of his trucks goes on the scale he maxes it out and it may have 1500lbs reading on the scale after the truck is off and he says it can't be clear cause it misses his day up. I told him thats bs.

Problem is his scale says my truck weights
    1) 5280lb first load with a trailer after being emptied
    2) 6000lb second load with no trailer after being emptied
    3) 6500lb third load with trailer after being emptied
    4) 7200lbs 4th load with trailer after being emptied

i am pissed off and confronting him did not work. What would you do?
next closest yard is 1 1/2hrs away and it took $40 gas 1 way and that was only 1550lbs in the truck

I'm thinking that there has to be a county department of weights and measures. I know they are the people that that make sure gas pumps are accurate and certify them. I would try there or the better business bureau.

$100/ton??? I assume for Light Iron. I don't know where you are, but LT Iron should be closer to $175/ton. I'd start looking for another yard or go to that one 1 1/2 hr away when I had a couple tons. Then call Weights and Measures (should be a State agency). Are you operating as a legit business (taxes etc)? Keep track of mileage and actual expenses and you'll recoup at tax time. Businesses tend to gain a healthy respect for Weights/Measures. That's why I don't technically buy by weight.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

The guy is clearly ripping you off and playing with the scale weights! If he had any common sense, he would play with your heavy weight and not touch your empty weight.. this way your empty weight is always the same.. This guy is a moron and a theif!.. complain to some1 and keep your scale receipt

    That's fraud.
I'd contact the state agency that handles weighs and measures.

Plus he may owe you some more money.

That is crazy. I would definitely call somebody. That is bogus and needs to be stopped. Not only could he be ripping you off, but everyone else that goes in to sell metal to him. The yard I go to has been very very consistent with the weights. Every time I hit the scale empty, I weight out at 4620 ( unless of course my helper is with me, then we weight out empty at 4810).

There was only one time when the scales were off. My helper went in to collect the money on the way out and was looking over the receipt. We had a small load which I figured we wouldn't get much at all. Figured $30 due to the light bulkiness of the metal and we ended up with $60. I actually went back and told him that he made a mistake and he didn't wanna hear it.

"Scales are messing up a bit today, that is what you earned". Honestly think maybe he was cutting us a break beings we had been in there about 30 times that week. Here and there, we make a bit more than we normally do.

And gasoline weighs about 6.15 lbs/gallon. So obviously, you're arriving with the exact same amount of gas every time. That's remarkable...

Hmm, LoL Ditchdigger, I never thought about the weight of the gas in the truck going and coming. Nice observation. I know I have shown up with various amounts in the tank. Whether full tank, almost empty tank, and everywhere in between.

He has empty weights ranging from 5280-7200.. Soo its obvious fuel weight has nothing to do with it. He's getting ripped off!

Yeah. I was just pointing out that tjlock's confidence based on getting the same light weight on every trip was misplaced. He could be getting ripped off as well, although for not as much. Or like I said, it might just average out, although that's poor business practice. There's no way a truck weighs exactly the same every time it crosses the scale.

    3) 6500lb third load with trailer after being emptied

    4) 7200lbs 4th load with trailer after being emptied
I read that as a 700 pound difference.
    That's not fuel
    That's not bad business practice

    That's fraud.
I hope he goes to jail if he's doing that to people.
