    just a few questions

hello there! I've been learning a lot from being on this forum but i just have a few questions i haven't really been able to find answers for. So that being said, they are listed below

    1) is it worth it to strip computer wires, i.e. VGA cables ect., or is it better to sell them intact to a buyer?

    2) Is taking the metal out of 3 ring binders worth it?

    3) what can be done with power tool batteries and other rechargeable batteries?

sorry if these are stupid newbie questions but any help would be very much appreciated.

Basically, it comes down to this: What is your time worth?

Computer wires I usually sell whole to my local yard. And the binders, that's up to you how much time you want to spend on it, is it worth it to you.

have you tried bringing the whole binder in to your scrap yard yet? some yards will take them just like that for shred.

In the beginning tear down everything. Try all the suggestions given above. "Is it worth my time to........?" has to be the most commonly asked question. The answers remain the same. It is worth it to some but not to everyone and we don't know if it will be for you. Keep at it and keep reading you will learn more by doing both. Mike

Almost any tool can have the batteries rebuilt . I don't mess with store brand tools but the big name tools its worth a 30$ battery kit (ebay or just google) and you can sell dewalt, millwakee tools all day long for 100$.

    1) is it worth it to strip computer wires, i.e. VGA cables ect., or is it better to sell them intact to a buyer?:
Clip the ends & fill a trash can with wire
Anything under 14 Gauge: you will make the same amount of money without stripping it, when you figure in the weight of the insulation.

    2) Is taking the metal out of 3 ring binders worth it?
Rip 'em out & throw them in your tin pile

    3) what can be done with power tool batteries and other rechargeable batteries?
Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) can be sold for scrap $$
Ni-Cad: Toss them in the recycle bin at Staples

sorry if these are stupid newbie questions but any help would be very much appreciated.

One of my next questions was what metal were the binder rings, but I'm assuming it's tin and not cast aluminum?

The wire I sell as #2 insulated after I cut the ends off (gold connectors) The binders I would take a box knife and slice the cardboard part off and put the metal part in the steel pile. Power tool batteries I have not found a buyer for, been looking for 6 years. Ni-cad and Ni-mh batteries can be sold as well as lap top batteries and cell phone batteries.

As Happy said, just cut the connectors. Buyers..will buy them. Rest just goes in the wire bucket. It's to thin for me to bother with. Jumper cables..now those..I strip. Most the stuff off regular electronics I won't strip, as it's just to small. TV degaussing cables an Monitor ones I will tho.

The others all gave you good advice on the batteries. If you find a outlet for the power tool ones, do let us know.

Sirscrapalot - Will you walk with me, Grasshopper? - Master Po, just for Miked
