Any value in fluorescent ballasts?
Any value in fluorescent ballasts?
Yes. If they're non-PCB. If they contain PCB, the yard won't touch them.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
Don't know myself, but right below here in "Similar threads on the Scrap Metal Forum" you may find an answer.
I broke down some ballasts & applied my calculator to the project
The results:
1: It's messy
2: For the amount of copper you get out of them, you should toss them in the tin pile
The calculator doesn't lie: It goes IN with the TIN

thanks I did some HID ballasts that was potted and did the freezer trick it works still a lot of work.
I just turned some in @ .16/lb, ask your scrap yard if they have a price for whole ballasts.
I used to sell these for Dirty Motor price which was about .14 cents a pound. Last summer my yard told me to throw them in the shred pile because their buyer didn't want them anymore. Even their tin buyer doesn't want them.
