    fluorescent ballasts

    Any value in fluorescent ballasts?

    Yes. If they're non-PCB. If they contain PCB, the yard won't touch them.

    I broke down some ballasts & applied my calculator to the project

    The results:
    1: It's messy
    2: For the amount of copper you get out of them, you should toss them in the tin pile

    The calculator doesn't lie: It goes IN with the TIN

    The yard I use wont even take those anymore. probably too much hassle to check them as they come in.
    Currently looking for a job in or related to scrap/recycling. Relocation is possible for the right offer.

    thanks I did some HID ballasts that was potted and did the freezer trick it works still a lot of work.

    I just turned some in @ .16/lb, ask your scrap yard if they have a price for whole ballasts.

    I used to sell these for Dirty Motor price which was about .14 cents a pound. Last summer my yard told me to throw them in the shred pile because their buyer didn't want them anymore. Even their tin buyer doesn't want them.

    I sell them to a core buyer that buys them pcb's or not. Everything has a value, thing is finding someone to buy it and the value of something depends on what someone is willing to pay.
