The winding is pressed into the cast housing. I take my air chisel to it and it breaks apart pretty easily.
Thanks for the help guys. Cutting the springs was my first instinct, but I have been known to take the more difficult route more often than not. Sounds like just getting it out is only step 1. The air chisel should also solve any number of problems I have laying around.
I will take a pair of wire cutters and clip the springs. I find it is a little easier to manuever them over the angle grinder. Then the motor will fall away and you just clip the wire on bottom to completely release it.
