Hey Fellow Scrappers,
I just got a tv tonight that is from 1993. The degaussing wire looks like aluminum, but I am not sure....Usually they are copper.....just wanted to know what it is?
Thanks,
Chase

Put a file to it and see what's under there.
I haven't found any copper ones yet, only aluminum. same color as the one in the picture, and a purplish red tint
I got aluminum from mine, too. Look at the cut off ends or scrape a little. Red - copper; silver - aluminum.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
From my experiences so far, computer monitors seem to always have copper degaussing wire. Most of the TV's I've done are aluminum wire.
I found one of those just the other day. Don't know whether this is from an old TV or an old computer monitor.
If that was copper it would be number 2. But since its aluminum im not sure if you can sell it as clean aluminum or not.
You can easily tell by the heft of it.
I have a box full of that aluminum crap that im not sure what to do with it yet. I sold insulated alum wire once and got .12 a lb for it so one day i will strip that box full and get a better price.
My yard threw mine in with the "old sheet alum".
