pick up a bottle of degreaser and a nice heavy sledgehammer. if its cast aluminum the sledge will make "cleaning" it a breeze.
the oil / tranny fluid residue and little bit of iron are what stop it going as cast aluminum (0.48 / #) vs tranny (0.17 /#) or dirty (0.09 /#) for me.
besides breaking it makes it lighter to handle and less likely to get dowwn graded as it would be less recognizable. if still worried about downgrades and got a chop saw or grinder add a few lawn mower flywheels cleaned up and other misc items. volume = fewer questions.
