.22 LR or any other rimfire, turn in for scrap because they're not reloadable in a general lay man's type of way (at least I've never heard of anybody reloading them).

Any center fire rifle or pistol case probably has some sale-able aspects to them, some a lot more than others. We used to be able to sell reloading componets such as casings on ebay but not any more. The suggestions about gun forums or local reloading folks are good ideas. Most center fire rifle casings will bring you probably between 15 and 40 cents a piece if they're in good shape (no or limited corrison, no neck splits ect.--anything like that hits the scrap pile) to a reloader but it depends on the situation.

I never heard anyone scrapping shotgun casings but I suppose you could (the metal part tends to be steel now and not brass). I used to reload most of my shotty shells (still do my rifle rounds) but when it came to shooting mostly steel shot, that went away as I needed to up grade to a much better machine than I had and I didn't do it. And the overall quality is not going to be as good as factory rounds. Steel shot also tends to tear the ends of the shell up a lot more than lead shot. Another thing to check out with reloaders. What shotgun cases are desirable and what are just throw aways.

And yes, I too I'm a bit perlexed about the statement about "giving it to the cops"?? It doesn't matter if they are empty cases or live rounds, they are personal property and they're none of the cops business unless if there 1) items that are illegal to have or need a license (a live 30 mm DU cannon shell as an example--yeah, don't go trying to sell that thing!), or 2) you're trying to sell items in a prohibited manner (say live ammo across state lines without a FFL license or whatever a guy needs to sell ammo), or 3) send in the mail or private carrier without a license, or 4) I guess if your state or local government have unconstitutional (and not yet tested in the courts) laws that say you can't sell such personal property within their jurisdictions. You may want to check that one out for your own situation. Other than that, the cops don't have to be involved!!

That's what I'd do. Quick and easy- it's probably the simplest way to profit on these.

I'd sort and count them, though. That way they can purchase what they want, and know what's available.
