Lead is at a dollar a pound how much lead is in a crt and how hard can it be to find an economical , safe way to recover it.

It can't be any harder or more expensive then starting a new lead mining project. Lead is here it's time to find a way to deal with it instead avoiding the issue and using regulation to sweep it under the rug. mcw
    Just an opinion:

See ... the thing is that we're talking about New York here. They have a rep here in the Northeast. No disrespect to any of our members but they're trending left toward larger and more intrusive government. The problem is that the imposition of order (more laws) = the escalation of social dis-order.

Eventually it gets to point where people get pissed off with all of the micro-managing of their lives and do the opposite thing purely out of spite.

It's not to say that Maine is any better, but we do have a lot of state provided e-waste collection sites where you can drop off a TV or CRT at no cost. I don't know if they put it into effect but i think there was something about paying an end of life disposal fee when you buy a new TV. That money goes into a fund of some kind so that the program is self sustaining ? I'm a little vague on that but that's the basic idea ?

Anyway ... two different kinds of government intervention to address a problem ?

In my city there is an electronics recycling drop off box. I take my TV's apart and try not to (have not broke one yet knock on wood) brake the glass. I cut the cord, take out the yoke, and remove boards then screw them back together. The city does not state they have to be complete and there is much metals left under that glass they can recycle. I feel very ethical in doing as I am doing.

I do know some that brake them up for every ounce of scrap they can get. This is just greedy if you don't have the proper things to deal with the by products.

When I do any scraping I try and recycle as much of the items as possible. This includes plastic, glass, paper, metals, boards, and any other items I can. I am not a green freak but I do try and do my best not to "scrap" (pun intended) our planet for our children.

I never said anything about broken glass on the street. I guess we should make a law that you can't throw out glass bottles or windows.
With that said, everyone that says they recycle their glass "properly", do you actually know where it goes? Are you sure downstream it doesn't end up in the landfill? I don't think so. There are thousands of abandoned warehouses that are stacked to the roof with CRT tubes that are popping up all over. This industry needs to find a cost effective CRT solution sooner than later!
One idea: I was reading an article regarding using chemically treated CRT glass and use it as ADC (alternative daily cover) at an solid waste landfill. There are a few landfills in the US that just started doing this. How about you look for certain landfills that handle hazardous waste and take it there. That's what we do when necessary.

No we can not say for sure what happens to it. What we can say is we are doing what we can to prevent it going somewhere bad. I do not research each and every thing I do. I hand it off to the proper place that is in my area and hope they do right with it.

Look at it this way you pay your taxes and do you know what your specific dollars are spent on? No I assume not and you probably wouldn't want too.

Now I understand your concerns and have an appreciation of helpful criticism. If I didn't then a public forum would not be the best place to be.

So no we all don't know what the end result is of our "recycled" output but we hope that being we did the right thing with it they will handle it with the same care for the earth we do.
