Dirty Brass or Not?

Is it plated with silver, or is there another reason you had to use a grinder to check it?
Some silverplate is made with a copper base and I've also seen nickel. I am wondering if the decorative trim is nickel and not stainless. I have a box of nickel (from silverplate) that I've had for a few years that the local yard won't pay me for. Not sure what to do with it so it sits.

But to answer your question, yes they will pay dirty brass with any other metal attached (if that is what you have).

Thanks for the reply. I thought I read somewhere if it was plated they would still take it as clean.Its not marked as plated silver just has Oneida USA on the bottom. It does have some kind of platting on it. Not sure what it is. I know it didnt spark.

Oneida is a very well known maker of silverplate. I'm not sure how the yard would classify it. I only know that if you leave the decorative piece of other metal on it, it will be considered dirty. A few years back I was dabbling with stripping the silver off of those pieces through a reverse electroplating process. Found out in a hurry that it wasn't worth my time. I do still have a couple of BB sized pellets of the silver I removed though. LOL

My yard would take it as clean, I don't think most yards would though.

Might be what they call "white brass". Either way you will make money on the deal I would think (my non-ferrous guy gives half for "brass breakage" as yellow brass so if it is 3 lbs. at my place 3 X .60= $1.80. If clean than well over $3).

My non-ferrous yard would class it the same as plumbers brass (chromed), which is only about .20 less than clean yellow. That white brass edge is still considered a brass alloy with about 50-60 % copper.
White brass AKA : nickel silver, german silver.
