First Dishwasher - What to Look For

So I'm picking up my first dishwasher today, and I was curious as to what I should look to remove on it?

I'm not real familiar with them so any hints/advice would be great.

Motor on bottom- cast aluminum with copper inside
sometimes there's stainless steel inside the dishwasher
the spinner might be sheet aluminum
wire harness

magnet test everything, do it for everything if unsure.

x2^^^ and i use a sawzall you cut the tub up in 5 pieces and the trash guys take it.

Yards by me will not take them too much plastic! Check with your yard if you need to break it down or if they will take as is!

I believe that is an inductor.

Be careful about the plastic. Too much is never good, so be knowledgable about your yard's policys.

Sounds about right. It closes/opens a valve I think.

Sounds like a solenoid valve to me, that's what those do, open/close back/forth. Mike

Just make sure u yank the wires leading to the controls on the dishwasher. On my first dishwasher i scrapped i didnt do it. I dont know what i was thinkin i lost out on another ft n a half of copper wire. Iv been savin the motors to. I got 12 electric motors 7 from vacuums smaller than motors from appliances but its still got copper in em 5 from appliances(dishwashers dryers n washer) cant wait to scrap a refridgerator or freezer.

If you have a good amount of CLEAN plastic your yard may want to buy it. I have a buyer for my plastic at .12 a pound.

Take a file to the windings. Some are copper clad aluminum.

I just got a dishwasher and pulled the tracks
racks out cleaned them and put them on eBay for $20 a piece the ones that sold on eBay went for $30 to $50

If the spinner arms are ok, same with the other inner parts, they do sell on ebay etc.
The wearing part on the spinner arms can wear thru and they drop down and the dishes don't get sprayed properly.
Just grab the end of it, if its loose & moves up & down too much its probably worn out and thats all thats wrong with the dishwasher.

The solienoid, use a screwdriver to pop off the bit of steel around its outside, pull it off the spindal.
Shove a steel rod or screwdriver into each end of it, now bend them so the solienoids in the centre and the plastic housing cracks and it breaks in 1/2 & you can pick he 25gms of copper wire out.

Be carefull with stainless steel, its edges are really sharp. Dishwashers will slice you more often than anything else you scrap down. Wear wrist protection of some sort and be extra carefull when you Push something to break or move it.

Stainless is mostly nonmagnetic, if its magnetic its classed as 'steel'.
If its very slightly magnetic, its actually probably 'High grade stainless'.
