    Types of steel/tin

School me on steel please. I have never recycled steel ever. When I was younger it was 20 bucks a ton, so I never bothered with it. I know that is different now. I am starting to accumulate some in anticipation of getting a trailer soon.

Does cast iron command a premium over regular scrap steel?

A basic steel 101 type description here would be great.

Thanks in advance to anyone that posts, and sorry if I missed this elsewhere in the forum.

Just substitute "steel" for "iron": http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/showt...ight=Beginners

The price for cast will be right at the price for #1 and I usually throw them together. I don't really like dealing with Light Iron (or Tin) because it takes so much to make a ton and takes up a lot more room on the trailer. You also need to strap it carefully to keep it from shifting and blowing/falling off.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Thanks for the link. Very helpful.

I am going to have to make a call to the steel yard and see how much the difference here is for stuff. When I called a month ago, I was told $8 per hundred. (160 a ton). Not near as much as you other guys, but the refinery may just be a loooong way from here.
