Looks like it. Did you try a magnet?
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
Yes and it did not stick.
Sounds like aluminum to me. Did you get a lot of it?
Just for background info for anybody reading--because a magnet didn't stick to the sample pictured doesn't mean that everything that looks just like that is aluminum. There's lots and lots of that stuff out there that is not aluminum--probably more than is. That's why the guy at the yard is going to check it with a magnet...
EFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.
I just brought in about 500 POUNDS of this stuff and threw it as light iron.
Live and learn i guess. Gah.
Also, if still not sure with the magnet test, I'll usually hit it with my angle grinder to see if any sparks fly. If they do, typically is stainless steel. if not, I'd say aluminum. The angle grinder will also show the metals true color.
It was a VERY large pile. Had to also use a trailor, because the stuff took up so much danged space.
And yep, just put a magnet to a piece i left behind. Aluminum.
Man that totally sucks.
When I used to use this material it was galvanized steel if I remember right. I will have to keep a closer eye out now.
I used to think it was all galvanized also. Just the other day I had tossed some on the light iron pile and then got to thinking that it seemed very light. I checked it and sure enough it was aluminum. It was only a couple of feet but I'll know to check conduit from now on.
I feel for you Hoss. It is worthless to cry over split milk, but I know how you feel!
From what I've come across, the smaller conduit is typically aluminum, and the larger conduit is galvanized.
every one has refered to this as conduit its called flex the hard pipe is called conduit conduit is always made out of steel. flex is made out of aluminum and steel you just have to take a magnet to it and you can tell by the wieght aluminum flex is awsome to get cause it clean aluminum always and the connectors that are screwed in the ends of flex are cast aluminum so save those also those add up fast thats how they connect the flex to electrical boxes
I just want to know an easy way to get the wire out of it!
Hoss, it's Re-cyclers fault !!! He keeps saying that if you are as good as he is you don't need a magnet. So, you sublimenally (sp?) took that in and didn't use your magnet and got stung for it. So now we all know that you can't be too experienced to use your magnet !!
As long as the flexible conduit is fairly straight with several inches of wiring exposed to grab a hold of, you should be able to pull them out. You might want to put the wires in a vise and pull on the flex. Sometimes it may be necessary to cut the flex in smaller pieces. Oh, one other thing to expose the wires inside you may have to unwind the flex, just grab the right end. You wont unravel much if you choose the wrong end. Pliers and gloves are good to have.
