How do you calculate finder's/referral fee?

There is a local computer-related non-profit from where I used to regularly pick up various ewaste. I decided to stop escrapping for some time and found another scrapper that I referred to him. I gave that scrapper a couple of other ewaste leads asking in return for a finder's fee (or I guess it should be called referral fee). I never specified how much I wanted. I reminded him recently about it and he told me he would pay me through PayPal. The amount he said he'd pay seemed kind of small to me.

In situations like this, how do you figure out what this fee should be?

    Thx

been in business a while, good rep , know most of the buyers been offered 2-3% by most not worth the effort to me. the shape the market is in right now and the education effort and time it involves + fuel cost and other expenses far exceed the % on the short term . just my .02 mcw

Remember most not totally educated in e scrap lose their shirts and shorts. and may need a jar of Vaseline as well. sry to be so blunt but wearerealuists. You quit probably because you weren't making enough money, it is the same for him and worse if he is uneducated in this business.

I'm setting on 4000lb hard drives 4000 lbs power supplies and just canceled a large school contract because they don't and can't understand the need for a non government owned business to make a profit. I also have my thumb on another 20,000lbs of mixed brown and green boards for .35 per lb because the know it all, college educated yard manager wouldn't listen to me just a, scrapper nobody.

I get 10 to 25% (of the sellers price) depending on what it is and who I'm dealing with. Sometimes I get more if it's a quick turn around for the buyer.

It is not often that I find a BIG deal, but I do come across many smaller ones.

The items I deal in are more the hard to find collectible curio types or military and sporting related items.

Thought I would add that sometimes the seller will give my a fee for finding a buyer that they can deal with quickly and without problems.

Information is worth money or trade if it is information that makes dollar$ and $en$e for those involved.
