Help Needed - New to Business

    Hi,

I am completely new to this business and don't have much knowledge. I do have a pending order, but i need to know what exactly is the name of the metal i am looking at and what is the price point. I would highly appreciate it if anyone can help me with this.

I am looking for Aluminium Scrap from Engines. It should not include bolts, nuts, copper or any iron. I only seek Aluminium. I believe the parts i am looking for are called Cylinder Heads of Cast Aluminium.

In my introduction thread, a member pointed out that these parts are called Irony Cast. But can anyone please confirm it for me, what exactly are these parts called and what is their price points?

I have attached some pictures of what i am looking for.

    Much Appreciated
    Thank You

Hello and welcome. I believe you had it right when you called them cast aluminum. Leaving any steel attached would give them the "irony" classification.
My yard has only one price for aluminum. Some yards have different prices for cast, sheet, extruded, etc.

Just curious now, how do you plan to get them? Are you going to reach out to repair shops, or other scrappers?

    Best of luck to ya,
    Cheryl

    Hi,

Thank You very much for your reply. So essentially, what i am looking for is called 'Cast Aluminium'? Essentially what i want is, only the aluminium in the engine, not the iron, bolts, nuts anything of it.

Also, is there a price difference between shredded or non shredded Cast Aluminium. Preferably i would want Shredded Cast Aluminium, but if the price difference is too much i guess i can just buy a shredder myself.

I am looking to initially buy 25 tons as a sample. I am based here in Toronto, Canada. I intend to export this Shredded Cast Aluminium to the Middle East, so it does not matter to me whether i buy it from Canada or the States. Do you have any good scrapyards for recommendations?

    Thanks for your help

I think the specks for this material is called trump - clean auto cast with no iron and free of oil.

    TRUMP-Aluminum Auto Castings

Shall consist of all clean automobile aluminum castings of sufficient size to be readily identified and to be free from iron, dirt, brass, bushings, and non-metallic items. Oil and grease not to total more than 2%.

Thank You so much for clearing this up. I really appreciate it.

Do you have any vendor in mind that deals with this type of Scrap? I am having a hard time locating a vendor for it online and a price.

    Thanks Again

Looks to be quite a few different grades of alum. so price might vary a little depending on what you want. Here's all I could find. Example:
    "Aluminum grades worked with include 1100, 2011, 2014, 2017, 2024, 3003, 5005, 5052, 5086, 5657, 6013, 6020, 6061, 6063, 6101, 6262, 7050 & 7075."

I would think that with the huge primary aluminum industry the middle east has that exporting scrap to them wouldn't be a very good market.

You don't know anything about what you are buying, but you want to buy 25 tons of it and ship it to the middle east? You may have good intentions but a lot of people might call that fishy.

Thanks for your post. You're correct, this is not my profession, i am an accountant and this is new to me.

I do agree that it may sound fishy considering how many scams are going on online, but i have a personal relationship with the owner of that die casting factory, known him for 15 years and he does not speak English. As of now he's getting ripped off by his local supplier, this is why he wants me to help him find a supplier in Canada or the US that i can vet for and letting me keep a profit.

Since i know now what i am looking for with help from all the awesome members here, i just need to find a good supplier.

Try contacting Schnitzer Steel...who or what office I don't know. They own Pick-N-Pull and probably have more than enough of what you're looking for.

Why not just buy good metal for the die cast shop from a supplier of foundry die-cast alloy ingots?

We in NewZealand do export a LOT of vehicles, 4WD's, engine and transmissions to the middle east.
They do have huge factorys where they check the motors etc and recondition them if they need to.
Because its a labour intensive job, its creating thousands of jobs over there and thats a big help for them and then they pay taxes too.
So its a win-win-win-win situation . (I like those situations...)
My closest scrapmetal buyer (who I don't sell metal too. haha.) Does this, he sends out a container full of vehicles, engines and such every couple of days.
He has all the prices for every sort of engine depending on its condition. And he knows every sort of part just by looking at it, if its a '4K' or a 'L28' etc.
They even take seized up engines and rebuild them.

But yeah, by buying engine heads by the container load, they can sell the good ones on and remelt the bad ones into new heads.

    Agreed

The market looks good, lots of demand there and due to the volatility in the region, not many big fishes are entering making it easier for small fishes like us. I just need to find a good supplier from here in North America. I have the order, just need a reliable supplier who can deliver. Do you have any companies in mind in North America, preferably Canada?

    Thanks

Hi. Your best bet would be salvage yards, but they will not guarantee clean. You may need to get some cheap labor or at least someone to inspect then. the 380 cast market is terrible right now. I am buying clean cast (not just motor blocks) for the same price as sheet and getting a similar price. This sounds like a lot of work for not a lot of return.

The problem is my record is really big, about 250 tons. Are there big companies that deal with that level of scrap?

    Thanks
