    scrapping steel cable

I have come across some old steel cable, or "wire rope" as some may call it. Im curious to see what category this would fall under at the yard, also wondering if most yards would prefer cut lengths rather than a coil of wire. Thanks

you can sell it as #1 prepared steel, i sold some old footrope from a net once, just leave it as a coil, no sense putting extra work into it

I was told to cut up mine, because otherwise it would get wrapped up in the shredder. Seems like it could go straight into the furnace as is.

Most places want it 3 foot or shorter so it will shred.

thanks for all the replies. I will most likely give my local yard a call before I haul it in.
