    Where to take Babbit metal

I found about 200 lbs of babbit metal in a dumpster at a bearing shop. What should I expect to get for it at a scrap yard?

Call the scrap yards in your area.

Be aware that yards may try to rip you off on the price of real tin ....

Before selling as scrap, you may want to find a person or place that restores steam traction or locomotive engines. If you talk to the right person, you may end up with more than scrap value.

    Cheers!

Rockaway Recycling in Rockaway NJ has it on thier price list under rare metals. Price says 50 cents to $5.50 per piund. You may want to call them to get further information.

We're not getting the full picture here, I'm guessing you have 200 lbs of pot dross and old bearing scrap both of which would be contaminated with mixed alloy's, oil and dirt.

What your asking about $$$ is a crap shoot, if the material is pot dross etc. your material belongs in the dumpster where you found it. Consider it hazardous waste.

Did you have permission to remove it from the dumpster that you "found" it in?

Yes I did. I don't dive unless I'm told I can. Bad enough that 90percent of the country thinks all scrapers are either on meth or felons. I don't want any trouble. I cover my ads every time. I've even asked for receipts if given an a.c. or copper
