The regional sized yard I take my stuff to has recently started a crackdown on plastics...What used to go in shredder steel has all but been cut out, whole irons no longer go as aluminum breakage, even dirty motors can't have plastic. Wallwart plugins now go as shredder instead of plug ends. They said it was because China no longer wants the plastic. Anyone else had this happen?

No problem here. Maybe you need to develop a better relationship with your yard. If you are a stop and drop scrapper you will not get any breaks.

your yard could be trying to make clean sheet iron bales for more money. Only time plastic was a problem shred was between $.09 - $.115 a pound.
I would be looking for a new yard for my shred. Its already too much work for $0.04/lb, I'm not going to pull all the plastic out.
Every time I think I have too much plastic in my shred I remember the guys who drop off refrigerators its never a problem for them.

I thought most of the shred steel gets separated out here and the rest sent to be separated in China, including the fluff. I am not sure on aluminum breakage though if it just goes as is over seas...

The yard around here doesn't accept plug "bricks" at all.
As far as plastic - I haven't taken in pure shred in a while, so can't tell ya. I do know the operators are a bit picky about water heaters, radiators, pre-smashed cars and appliances ( some folks tried to rip them off in the past ) .
The local yard I use has also had some changes recently. Wall warts and ceiling fan motors won't go as electric motor any more. They said it was more of a lack of copper content than a plastic problem. Vacuum cleaners that used to go as dirty aluminum now are shred. They haven't changed their stance on irons or gotten too picky about plastic in shred yet.
I have a great relationship with this yard as I'm their ewaste buyer.

The yard that has a Clean Sheet Iron category is paying the following...
Sheet Iron $75 net ton
Unprepared $105 net ton
Clean Sheet Iron $110 net ton
Prepared $115 net ton
I don't break down much steel just separate into different piles and take in when I have enough of that item.

I have had no issues with plastic in the lite iron or anyplace else. Swiffers still go as dirt Ali, artificial trees go in shred (with or without lights), and I haven't had to cut plug ends. However, my Cat5 wire gets lumped with shop, at best, and I can't send whole jump-packs or UPS units as SSLA's.
