Exclamation Cosmetic, makeup and skincare products - Gold recovery

    Hello guys,
my wife uses a lot of makeup and skincare products and I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to gold scraping gold caps or products?

just google "estee lauder double wear foundation " I'm talking about the gold cap.

    these are gold plated right?

so.. how much gold can we actually recover from it?

    base metal : alluminium

    thank you for your help!

On another internet forum one chap was mentioning how he recovered the Gold plating from yard sale China and Glassware.
Basically he made more money reselling the glassware as its now clean without a worn gold plate on it.

Gold plate for decorative purposes can be quite thin and it takes a lot of it to make it worth it. He was getting broken glass/ceramics for free and since all it did was sit in a little, there was not a lot of work and any Gold was recovered along with his main Gold recovery setup.
Basically, not worth it. We don't 'do' Gold recovery here, there's dangerous chemicals involved and its not worth it.
Believe me, I tried doing it. Never made a cent, had a couple of possible very dangerous potential accidents and lost money in acids, and time..... The amount of time and tooling it takes is amazing.
Now every nail/screwhead, stainless steel pan and decorative steel item in the house has a thin layer of rust on it...

Its far better to stick to getting escrap, sort it properly, pack and sell it to someone here at SMF and take the $$ and buy a Gold bar with it.

I don't think it's gold plate. I'm not sure but we collect beauty products with our facility's TerraCycle programs and the few gold-looking tops I've found don't seem to be the real thing.

    Also, what Kiwi said.
